“The Works of Warhol”

Andy Warhol is one of the great artists of our times. You can find Warhol’s work in prints and posters. He transformed contemporary art during his career and now you can own a production of his work for your own. His art works are comprised of over 12,000 pieces of art which include his drawings, paintings, photography, sculptures, films and prints.
He created a diversity of images. From singers, the famous, pop art to coca-cola images. His role as a pop art cultural icon influences his artwork. The magnitude and the diversity of his work can be found in prints, posters and quotes everywhere. The quote “everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes” was one of his that is oftentimes misquoted.
Marilyn Monroe is one of his most famous silk screens as well as Gumby and Guevara. He was probably most remembered for images such as Campbell’s Soup cans and the Coca-Cola bottles. He was successful in every area he chose. This included film, photography and sculpture.
Warhol inspired many artists, film makers, musicians, photographers and writers. His work was enjoyed by many. As a person, people were fascinated by his elusive personality and his appearance. Even by the ones closest to him found it hard to describe him. He was a complicated artist but his artwork can provide a basis for studying him further.
Today there is a museum that houses his permanent collection of art. The museum is located near downtown Pittsburg, PA. Its collection is providing the public with the ability to have access to his works. It would be something you would not want to miss seeing if you ever in Pittsburg.
The Economist reported a private transaction where the price of $100 million was paid for the Warhol’s 1963 canvas painting titled Eight Elvises. This benchmark selling price had only been achieved at this time by four other artists, Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Jackson Pollock and Willem Demons Kooning.
On August 18, 2009 an anonymous buyer bought the painted portrait of Michael Jackson that Warhol painted in 1984. Speculations that the painting would fetched upwards of $10 million was sold at the gallery of Janet Lehr for over $1 million. Shortly after the death of Michael Jackson, Lehr purchase the painting for just under $300,000.
On November 12, 2009 another one of Andy Warhol’s painting was sold. The 1962 “200 One Dollar Bills” presale estimate was for $12 million but sold for a whopping $43.8 million. The painting sold at Sotheby’s by a buyer over the telephone and the name of the seller and buyer was not disclosed. The seller had previously purchase the painting in 1986 for $385,000 directly from Warhol’s dealer.
The $43.8 million is still not the current record for Warhol. In 2007 his painting called “Green Car Crash” sold for $97.7 million. At the contemporary art sale it was the highest price fetched for a total of $134.4 million total. A self-portrait which Warhol gave to a receptionist name Cathy Naso, who worked at his factory, sold for $6.1 million.
